Fifty-four R Sniper Rifle

Sniper rifle used by Adelei Niska’s men. Shepherd Book describes this weapon from just the wounds on dead men. (War Stories)

Possibly a reference to the current standard Russian sniper and medium machine gun round, the 7.62x54R in which case Book may be referring genericly to any rifle that fires this round.
